Learn to Paint Translucent Glass Alla Prima in Oils

In this 4 hour workshop, Whitney will be guiding painters through creating their very own painting of translucent glass in an Alla Prima technique. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own print out of a reference image, or they can choose from the reference images provided by Whitney.
There will be live demonstration and individualized instruction. By the end of the event, attendees will come away with a greater understanding of the features of oil paint, color mixing, color theory, palette organization, creating depth, best practices for approaching a new painting and a completed painting to take home.
The techniques learned in this workshop can be taken back to your studio and applied to any painting!

$80 - Bring Your Own Supplies
This option is great if you already have all of your own supplies and preferred paints, or if you are planning on continuing your own oil painting practice and will be purchasing your own supplies soon. A suggested materials list is below and will also be in the confirmation email.
$120 - Supplies Provided
This option is perfect for those who do not have their own supplies already and don’t have the time or desire to source their own materials. All necessary materials will be provided at the event. All you have to bring is yourself, a can-do attitude, and maybe a snack!
Meet Whitney Paige
“I am NOT a classically trained artist, and I don’t think you need to be. I have a natural rebellious streak that has enabled me to create meaningful contemporary art through a unique visual language.” - Whitney Paige
Whitney started painting in her early 20s. She began her career teaching at paint and sips across Miami, before moving to Georgia to develop her original art. She moved to St. Petersburg 3 years ago and is excited to return to teaching through this workshop series.

My Favorite Paints to Mix from are below in bold, but you do not need to match my palette exactly. The most important thing with paint selection is that you have a warm and cool option for red, yellow, & blue(cyan.) Depending on the reference photo you select, you may want to bring a secret guest color for your palette. If you would like to e-mail me your reference photo, I’m happy to make suggestions for any secret guest colors for you. (Please Note: I use a very unique palette in my work.)

The best palette for this workshop would be a paper palette as it allows for easy transport and clean up. They come in books of 9×12 and 11×14 sizes and we will need at least 2 sheets.
If you’d like to save any unused paint, I recommend also bringing a flat tupperware container.

Canvas can be either stretched or panels, in cotton or linen. (cotton is less expensive).
Ideally, use either 9” x 12” or 11” x 14”

For this workshop, please do not bring any solvent based mediums. For brush cleaning we will use either cold-pressed linseed oil or refined linseed oil.
If you’d like to mix any fast drying mediums into your painting, I recommend Gamblin’s Solvent Free Medium. Please note that even with fast-drying mediums, the painting will still be wet at the end of the workshop.

A roll of sturdy paper towels or clean cotton rags are recommended for brush cleaning.

Artmosphere is equipped with a painter’s sink, so if you’d like to wash your brushes before you depart, please bring whatever brush soap you’d prefer.
